A source at the State Department said his country would take action against Russia in response to a possible violation of the open skies treaty.

The Russian news agency RIA Novosti quoted the source as saying that Russia's violation of the open skies treaty has long been of concern to Washington, and Washington is ready to backtrack on these measures at any time if Russia reneged on its obligations under the treaty.

The source hoped that such measures would prompt Russia to discuss this concern with the United States constructively.

The chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford, said earlier that the United States "informed Russia in June of its violation of this treaty."

The Wall Street Journal reported that Washington would announce restrictions on Russian military flights over American territory under the open skies treaty.

A source at the State Department said his country would take action against Russia in response to a possible violation of the open skies treaty.
"Russia's violation of the open skies treaty has long been a concern for Washington, and Washington is prepared to back down at any time if Russia returns and abides by its obligations under the treaty," the source was quoted as saying by the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.
The source hoped that such measures would prompt Russia to discuss this concern with the United States constructively.
The chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford, previously announced that the United States "informed Russia in June of its violation of this treaty."
The Wall Street Journal reported that Washington would announce restrictions on Russian military flights over American territory under the open skies treaty.
The newspaper said that the US side is preparing measures in response to the Kremlin's ban on flights over the Russian city of Kaliningrad.
For its part, Moscow called on Washington to submit its complaint under the Treaty in accordance with the provisions of this document.
The treaty was signed in 1992 in Finland and signed by the Russian side in 2001. According to it, the countries are entitled to fly over one another's territory to monitor military activities.
