    [rtl]Afghan authorities have announced that they have armed and trained civilians to protect mosques, especially in Shiite areas, from terrorist attacks as the start of the holy month of Muharram approaches.[/rtl]
    [rtl]Afghan authorities mobilized and armed civilians to protect mosques, especially in the Shiite areas with the approach of the Hijri year and the beginning of the month of Muharram Haram after a series of attacks by terrorist groups on the Shiite Muslims in Afghanistan, where Interior Minister Wes Ahmed Barmak announced that additional security forces will be deployed around the sites threatened, Especially during the commemoration of Ashura.[/rtl]

    [rtl]"Measures have been taken to secure the distribution of weapons and other necessary equipment to new recruits, as well as rewards." The second vice president, Surdur Danish, also said that "people should not rely solely on the security forces to protect them, after the recent unfortunate incidents." "People, especially young people, must organize their ranks to protect the mosques of their neighborhoods during the period of Muharram," he said.[/rtl]
    [rtl]Deputy Interior Minister General Murad Ali Murad said that "the distribution of weapons in religious sites to newly recruited persons, as well as communications equipment, will begin soon." No further clarification was provided.[/rtl]
    [rtl]Since the summer of 2016, Afghan areas have been attacked and suicide attacks targeted mosques during religious events.[/rtl]
