European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mugherini said the EU is working with Congress and the US administration to ensure that the new US policy toward Iran does not violate the historic nuclear deal.
In meetings with US administration and congressional officials in Washington this week, the European official stressed the importance the EU attaches to supporting the nuclear deal with Iran.
"We want to see the United States continue its commitment to the future," Rice told a news conference in Washington. "The EU has security interests in its continued application."
European diplomacy has suggested that the European Union does not plan to interfere in discussions within the United States on this issue, but stressed at the same time that "reviewing the agreement with Iran is not an option."
Last October, US President Donald Trump threatened to withdraw from the nuclear deal with Iran if the US Congress and Washington's allies fail to address its "shortcomings". Threatening to impose "harsh sanctions" on Tehran.
Trump said he did not intend to ratify Iran's commitment to the nuclear deal, which he said was "full of flaws, which the administration will work with Congress to deal with."
The United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany signed an agreement with Iran in July 2015, under which Tehran agreed to restrict its nuclear program in return for easing international sanctions imposed on it by the program.
