The Palestinian government holds Israel responsible for escalation in the West Bank and Gaza
The Palestinian Accordance Government Thursday evening held Israel fully responsible for the latest escalation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
A spokesman for the Palestinian government, Yousef Mahmoud, said in a statement: "The murder of a resident of the northern West Bank by settlers, added to the record of crimes of settlers, under the protection of the occupation forces."
He added: "This black crime is associated with the raids of Israeli occupation and artillery shelling on the Gaza Strip, in a serious escalation."
Al-Mahmoud called on the international community to provide protection to the Palestinians and urgent action to stop Israel's actions.
He called for the speedy end of the Israeli occupation and the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders.
Earlier Thursday, a Palestinian was killed by a live bullet fired by an Israeli settler in the northern West Bank city of Nablus.
Three Palestinians were also slightly injured this evening by Israeli shelling targeting a military site of an armed faction in southern Gaza City, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said.
The shelling came south of Gaza City as part of a series of raids by Israeli warplanes on sites belonging to the Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements throughout the Gaza Strip.
"The shelling came in response to the firing of mortars from Gaza towards a military post in the northern Gaza Strip," IDF spokesman Avichai Adarai said in a statement.
He accused the Islamic Jihad of planning to fire mortars, while at the same time, "Hamas" responsibility for the escalation in the sector. Finished
