    Zagros Arabia - Erbil

Today, Friday, Israel began expelling “thousands” of Palestinian workers to the Gaza Strip in light of the ongoing heavy bombardment of the besieged Strip for weeks, according to what Agence France-Presse quoted officials as saying.

Hisham Adwan, director of the Gaza Crossings Authority, told Agence France-Presse: “Return thousands of workers detained in Israel since the beginning of the war.”

According to the Israeli authorities, about 18,500 Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, holding work permits, were in Israel when the war began on October 7, with Hamas launching an attack on Israel, which responded with a concentrated bombing campaign and later with a ground attack on the besieged Strip.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office announced on Thursday evening that "those workers from the Gaza Strip who were in Israel on the day the war broke out will be returned to Gaza."

Yesterday, Thursday, Israel said that it would move forward with transferring tax funds to the Palestinian Authority in the occupied West Bank, but would withhold funds allocated to the Gaza Strip, and at the same time help the Palestinian Authority cover the salaries of public sector employees and pay the cost of electricity there.

After controversy over whether the transfer would take place in light of the ongoing confrontations between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza, the Israeli government said that it would also withhold the money paid by the Palestinian Authority as salaries to Palestinian activists and their families.

Under interim peace agreements, the Israeli Ministry of Finance collects taxes on behalf of the Palestinians and makes monthly transfers to the Palestinian Authority, which enjoys limited autonomy in the occupied West Bank. This arrangement raises ongoing disputes.
