The Ministry of Planning, the population of Iraq exceeded 37 million people according to the estimates set during the year 2017, while the population of the provinces of the region (Sulaymaniyah, Erbil, Dohuk) about 5 million people, which means they make up to 13% of the Total population of Iraq.
The ministry spokesman Abdel-Zahra al-Hindawi said in a press statement that the number of these numbers was based on the base year 2009 adopted by the ministry in determining the density of the population where the ministry carried out the numbering and inventory operations throughout the country and showed the results that the population of Iraq in that year is 31 Million and 600 thousand people.
"The ministry relies on a number of indicators to calculate the rate of increase in the population, including the rate of births and deaths, net migration and annual growth rate of 2.06," Hindawi said, according to these data, the population of Iraq is increasing each year between 850 thousand to one million people or Slightly lower.
