Shafaq News / Prime Minister Haider Abadi, on Tuesday, for being under pressure from political parties, in order to maintain the international ban imposed on the airports of the Kurdistan Region.
Abadi said during the weekly conference that there are "unnamed" parties exerted pressure on us so as not to open airports to the Kurds, indicating that these want to make electoral gains from keeping the airports of Kurdistan closed.
"The Kurds are citizens of the first degree, and we do not want to harm our citizens," he said, adding that his government will not lift the ban on airports in Kurdistan only in the event of the fulfillment of all conditions, he said.
He pointed out that Baghdad has granted exemptions for a number of international flights from the airports of the Kurdistan region, for humanitarian and other reasons.
It is noteworthy that the Kurdistan region held on 25 September last referendum, in which 93% of the population voted for independence from Iraq, but this has angered Baghdad to cooperate with Tehran and Ankara to impose sanctions on the region, including the ban on flights to airports Erbil and Sulaymaniyah .
