On August 30, 2017, the commander of the Iraqi Falcon Regiment, Colonel Shaker al-Rishawi, announced the opening of the crossing officially and permanently, after the competent authorities had completed all security and service measures to secure the international road between Amman and Baghdad.
Iraqi forces completely liberated al-Hattaba from guerrilla control and, in May 2016, called for the restoration of the entire city of Anbar.
