    [ltr]French President Emmanuel Macaron said on Thursday that the EU summit in Sofia, Bulgaria, had decided to support a nuclear deal with Tehran aimed at protecting European companies operating in Iran.[/ltr]
    [ltr]When arriving in Sofia, the French president stressed the need to defend Europe's economic sovereignty, adding that European companies should be able to freely choose either to do business in Iran or to refrain from doing so.[/ltr]
    [ltr]McCron said that the European Commission has prepared a package of proposals to protect European companies operating in Iran from the repercussions of US President Donald Trump's decision on the withdrawal of the United States from the nuclear agreement between Tehran and the "5 + 1" and the re-imposition of sanctions on Iran.[/ltr]
    [ltr]"We have conducted intensive consultations on Iran, and the nuclear agreement in 2015 is an important element of regional security and peace, so we have decided to stand by it, no matter what the US decision, and we will take political action to allow our companies to stay in Iran," he said.[/ltr]
    [ltr]The French president stressed that Europe was from the beginning united in its quest to establish security and peace in the region, and said: "We are leading all parties to continue to negotiate the most comprehensive agreement on Iran's nuclear program."[/ltr]
