The spokesman for the US Embassy in Iraq, Charles Gul, on Saturday denied the meeting of the special envoy of the President of the United States with an Iranian military commander in Baghdad.
"The US Embassy has noticed the circulation of incorrect media reports about a meeting between special presidential envoy Brett McGork and an Iranian general to discuss the formation of a new Iraqi government," Gul said in a statement on the embassy's Web site, Twitter.
"These are baseless news and there has never been such a meeting.
Local media reported the meeting of Makkurk with the commander of the Quds Force in the Revolutionary Guard Qasim Soleimani at the Iranian embassy in Baghdad, to discuss the formation of the next federal government.

denied the US State Department, media reports about a secret meeting between the US president 's envoy to the International Alliance Brett Macgork, and the commander of the Qods Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Qassem Soleimani. "Current media reports about a meeting between special presidential envoy Brett McGuck and an Iranian general to discuss the formation of a new Iraqi government are baseless,"

US embassy spokesman Charles Cole said through the embassy's Twitter account in both English and Arabic.

"There has never been such a meeting," the US embassy said.

This comes after the newspaper "Al-Jarida" in a report published on its website on Friday, entitled "Sulaimani met McGurk secretly to form a government of Iraq ," it learned from informed sources in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard that the commander of the Quds Force, Major General Qassem Soleimani met with the envoy of the President US Secretary of State for Iraq, Brett McGork, last Tuesday, secretly to agree on a solution to the formation of the Iraqi government faltering, and stop the escalation between the two sides.

The American side assured the Iranians that it was not connected in any way to the burning of the Iranian consulate during the Basra protests and asked the Iranians to instruct their allies to avoid attacking US interests in Iraq to avoid any uncontrollable escalation.
