Follow - up / ... US President Donald Trump predicted " a great future" for North Korea if approved by its leader Kim Jong-un, who will meet him on Wednesday evening in Hanoi, to give up his country 's nuclear arsenal.
"Vietnam is thriving in a way that is unmatched only in a few places in the world," Trump said in a tweet on Twitter.
"North Korea can do the same thing very quickly if it decides to disarm," he said, adding: "We have a great opportunity, perhaps unprecedented in history, for my friend Kim Jong-un.
The talks between the two leaders came eight months after a historic summit in Singapore, the first meeting between a US president and a North Korean leader.
While there is no real expectation that their second meeting will produce a final agreement that would eliminate North Korea from nuclear weapons that threaten the United States, hopes are raised that the meeting could lead to a declaration that the 1950-53 Korean War will officially end.
But the United States, according to observers, will wait for a concrete move by Kim towards nuclear disarmament in return.
Pyongyang is linking its nuclear disarmament with a series of conditions, notably lifting international sanctions that stifle its economy, and ending what it calls the US threats - the military presence in South Korea and the region in general.
