The capital city of Baghdad is facing an intractable problem, which is characterized by traffic jams in most of its streets and intersections, amid the absence of solutions, and the disruption of the establishment of strategic projects that can contribute in the coming years to solve the problem.
The governor of Baghdad, Falah al-Jazairi told "The Covenant News" that: "The province submitted a request to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers to obtain his approval and provide financial support to cover the cost of implementing the project of Baghdad train suspended"
While the province signed the middle of last month a memorandum of understanding with the French companies Alstom and Hyundai to implement the project. The Algerianconfirmed that "the project was included within the government program and its implementation is linked to the provision of financial allocations to start work and completion as soon as possible, as it will help to ease the traffic congestion in Baghdad"
The train will connect the sides of Karkh and Rusafa with a track starting from the Shaab area through Al-Mustansiriya and Al-Waziriyah. Then it will cross from Atifiyah, Kadhimiyah, Al Muthanna Airport and Al-Alawi. The estimated cost of the project will be more than $ 600 million. End quote
