    The Information Office of the Ministry of Oil announced Wednesday the laying of the foundation stone for the project of liquefaction of natural gas in Basra.
    Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Oil Minister Thamer Abbas Al-Ghadhban said in a statement that "step of step" a copy of it that "this project enhances the capacity of the Basra Gas Company to invest its share (40%) of gas production in the Artawi field to raise the production rates of the company from Gas invested to (1.4) billion standard cubic feet per day from all fields invested in the first round of licenses (Rumaila North, Zubair, West Qurna / 1).
    He added that the project is one of the most promising projects to enhance the national production of gas to supply the national electric power grid and achieve the generation (1500) MW, in addition to increasing the rates of production of liquid gas (LPG), which in turn will contribute to achieve financial revenues through the export of quantities Domestic consumption, as well as reducing environmental pollution and substantially stopping gas flaring. ”
    The minister pointed out that "the project will support the national content, which we always emphasize," noting "increasing the proportion of contracts with the public and private sector as main contractors, as well as the use of Iraqi labor."
    "The project is a new facility designed according to the latest international standards, consisting of two gas treatment units (acidic)," said the director of the South Gas Company Hayyan Abdul Ghani, adding that "these two units add 400 million standard cubic feet per day (Mqmq) to produce a company Basra Gas. ”
    "The project also includes the installation of three new pipelines, new NGL extraction facilities and the rehabilitation of old facilities," he added.
    “The significant environmental impact of the project in the governorate is that the amount of treatment in the project (BNGL) will prevent the entry of additional quantities of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Burning gas, noting that since 2013 Basra Gas Company has been able to prevent the emission of nearly 70 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere ”
    For his part, the Director of Basra Gas Company (Frats Club) said that “Basra Gas Company started the development and modernization of many facilities in the Basra Gas Company and in the storage and export complex in Umm Qasr as well as the cooling project for the LPG, as well as various improvements in Khor Al-Zubair and additional stations To compress gas upstream and pipelines. This comes within the increased capacity of gas to be added by the Basra liquefaction plant, which is expected to start operating the first production unit at the end of 2021, followed by the operation of the second unit later.
    "The new Basra natural gas liquefaction complex will include the construction of 14 compressor stations and more than 150 pieces of equipment, in addition to cutting equipment used to measure compressed air and water treatment," said Basra Gas Director.
    "This project comes within the plans of the ministry and the Basra Gas Company to invest new quantities of gas associated with oil operations with a capacity of 400 Mqmq per day added to the national production," ministry spokesman Assem Jihad said.
    He pointed out that `` the ministry is working to implement new projects to invest associated gas and free in the provinces of Basra, Maysan, Dhi Qar, Anbar and Diyala, in agreement with international companies sober cooperation and support from the national effort of the ministry companies, and that Iraq aims to strengthen its position as a producer and exporter of gas. ''
