The escalation in front of the American embassy in Baghdad indicates the start of a new escalation round between the Iraqi factions affiliated with the Popular Mobilization on one side and Washington on the other hand, especially after the recent American air strikes on the headquarters of the 45th and 46th Brigades (Hezbollah Brigades), which confused the scene Iraqi.
The scenes of hit-and-run in front of the American embassy in Baghdad are still at the forefront of the Iraqi arena, after dozens of protesters stormed Tuesday, depriving the Washington embassy in Baghdad, and setting fire to two gates and observation towers, before the riot police managed to drive them away to the embassy vicinity.
This development comes in response to American air strikes that targeted Sunday, locations of the Hezbollah Brigades in the district of Al-Qaim, west of Anbar Governorate, which resulted in the death of 28 members of the crowd and 48 wounded.
The gradual withdrawal of the sit-in from the American embassy began at noon Wednesday, after the popular crowd called on its supporters to withdraw from the vicinity of the American embassy, out of respect for the government's decision, which could mean stopping this round of escalation between Washington and the popular crowd.
Direct accusation of the crowd leaders
In response to the circulation of pictures of the President of the “Popular Mobilization Committee” Faleh Al-Fayyad, his deputy Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, the leader of the “Alliance of Conquest” Hadi Al-Amri, and the Secretary-General of “Asaib Ahl al-Haq” Qais Khazali, during their participation in the protests in front of the embassy, he accused On Wednesday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, leaders of the Iraqi "Popular Mobilization", orchestrated the attack on the US embassy in Baghdad.
Pompeo posted in his tweet on Twitter, the photos of four of the crowd leaders, describing them as "terrorists of Iran", and accused them of "masterminding the attack"

"The attack was organized by the terrorists Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and Qais al-Khazali, and Iranian agents Hadi al-Amiri and Faleh al-Fayyad incited him," the US minister said.
In this context, Pompeo stressed that the attack on the American embassy should not be "confused" with the protests of the Iraqi people in the country since last October.
He added, "The attack on the American embassy must not be confused with the legitimate efforts of the Iraqi protesters, who have taken to the streets since October in the interests of the people of Iraq, and an end to corruption issued by the Iranian regime."
It is worth noting that the office of the head of the Popular Mobilization Authority, Faleh al-Fayyad, hinted Wednesday that the latter did not go to the American embassy, while the pictures were near the Double Deck Bridge in Baghdad.
The media office of the head of the Popular Mobilization Authority published four pictures of the latter, and commented on them, "The head of the Popular Mobilization Committee, Professor Faleh al-Fayyad, is in Freedom Square (the two floors) for the funeral of the bodies of the martyrs of the popular crowd."
Iran: Retaliation against the crowd
On the other hand, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday that the United States is "avenging" the popular crowd in Iraq, for defeating the terrorist organization "ISIS".
This came in a speech by Khamenei at a local event in the capital, Tehran, commenting on the accusation of the American administration, Iran, of being behind the attack on the Washington embassy in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
Khamenei added: "Look what the United States is doing in Iraq and Syria, it is taking revenge on the popular crowd for defeating ISIS. The crowd has destroyed ISIS created by the United States, and they (the Americans) are now taking revenge."
Earlier, Iran, through its Foreign Ministry spokesman, Bahram Qasimi, rejected accusations by US officials of being responsible for the attack on the American embassy in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
The Trump administration imposed economic sanctions on three leaders of the factions in the PMF last month, including the leader of the Hezbollah Brigades that was targeted by the US attack. The United States has accused those factions of participating in an unprovoked attack on anti-government protesters, which killed 15 people.
The United States asserts that the strikes were a retaliatory response to more than 30 rockets fired by the Hezbollah Brigades at an Iraqi military base near Kirkuk on Friday, killing one American contractor and wounding four American and two Iraqi soldiers. Ended 6/29 N
