    Baghdad - Mawazine News
Iraq agreed to assume the mission of NATO some training activities that were provided by the international coalition to fight the terrorist organization, led by the United States.
Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary-General of NATO, announced the approval of the Iraqi government, during a press conference after a meeting of defense ministers of the member states of NATO, saying, "The Iraqi government assured us of its desire for NATO to continue its mission to train and build Iraqi forces."
Baghdad's approval was a condition set by some members of the Alliance to agree to enhance its mission in Iraq with units from the International Alliance charged with resuming some of its activities in the level of providing advice and training to Iraqi forces.
Stoltenberg received written approval during the evening, according to diplomatic sources.
However, the NATO Secretary-General did not want to provide further details on the subject during the press conference. US Defense Secretary Mark Esper also refused to talk about the matter during his intervention.
On Wednesday, NATO countries endorsed the principle of assuming some training activities provided by the international coalition to fight the militant group ISIS.
"The number of troops to be transferred from the coalition to the NATO mission, and details of the training activities that will be resumed by the mission, will be discussed on Friday in Munich by NATO members on the sidelines of the security conference," Stoltenberg said.
And Spain confirmed, yesterday, Wednesday, its approval to allocate part of its units to the NATO mission, which currently has 500 members working under Canadian command. Diplomatic sources said that other countries have agreed to move forces.
The activities of the NATO mission were disrupted last month, coinciding with the disruption of the operations of the international coalition to fight ISIS.
This came, after the Iraqi parliament’s decision to ask foreign forces to leave the country. Ended 29 / h
