    The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hassan Al-Kaabi, confirmed today, Tuesday, the parliament's intention to build parliamentary diplomatic relations with Japan and other diplomatic missions in Iraq.
    The media office of the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament stated, in a statement received by the National News Center, that “Al-Kaabi, his office received the Japanese ambassador to Iraq, Kotaro Suzuki and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of Representative Omar Rikani, to develop joint cooperation between the two countries, and to strengthen the relationship in a way that is beneficial for them. The two peoples, and discussed many files of mutual interest.
    According to the statement, Al-Kaabi called for "benefiting from Japanese expertise in large development projects that need financing, designs and technical and engineering consultations, especially in the energy and ports sectors," indicating that "Iraq has a great desire to expand the relationship at all levels and fields, whether economic or health, in addition to Educational, cultural and other with Japan to achieve within the framework of achieving the comprehensive development plan.
    The First Deputy affirmed, "The House of Representatives is determined to build parliamentary diplomatic relations with Japan and other diplomatic missions in Iraq to develop and exchange experiences and establish balanced relations with everyone in a way that serves the country's sovereignty, stability and interests."
    He called on Japan to "build bridges of relations at the grassroots level by establishing activities and events within universities and at the level of organizations to enhance popular confidence."
    In turn, praised the Japanese ambassador in Baghdad on "the efforts made by the House of Representatives in the issuance of important legislation," saying that "this institution is the pillar of democracy in Iraq."
    The ambassador expressed his "extreme keenness to strengthen the relationship with the government in a manner that meets the aspirations of the two countries and two peoples."
