"We feel sadness and sympathy with Iraq for this painful incident," said US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, in a statement posted on the White House website.
"We are in contact with Iraqi officials and have offered them assistance. Our strategic partnership with Iraq is primarily a partnership between the two peoples, and we are preparing to support the Iraqi government and its people at this tragic moment," he added.
88 people were killed and 110 others injured in a fire broke out yesterday evening, Saturday, at Ibn Al-Khatib Hospital, which is designated for people with Corona virus, southeast of the capital, Baghdad.
As a result, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi decided to withdraw the hand of Minister of Health Hassan Al-Tamimi, the Governor of Baghdad, and the Director of Al-Rusafa Health, following the fire incident in Ibn Al-Khatib Hospital.
While the Supreme Judicial Council in Iraq announced the arrest of the director of the Ibn Al-Khatib Hospital, Salman Al-Shammari, and a number of the hospital's employees, on the background of the fire incident as well.
