The representative of the Natural Resources, Oil and Gas Committee in the Kurdistan Parliament, Rebwar Babki, revealed, on Saturday, the causes of the gasoline crisis in Kurdistan.
Babki said, "There are several reasons behind the rise in gasoline prices in Kurdistan, including the non-compliance of importing companies with the instructions and conditions of the Ministry of Natural Resources concerned with these matters, and the supply of large quantities of this substance is not of high quality, which led to a decrease in the percentage of gasoline produced by local companies." .
He added, "The rise in the value of the dollar also played a role in the rise in gasoline prices, as imports are made through hard currency."
And Babki said that "the rest of the provinces do not import large quantities of gasoline from abroad, as is the case in the Kurdistan region, as they depend on internal production, unlike the region, which depends on imports, so the issue of the dollar's exchange value does not affect fuel prices."
Babki pointed out that "companies monopolize gasoline and store large quantities of it, to exploit it when its prices rise in the market, and then extract and sell the stock."
Babki pointed out that "the other reason for the increase in the price of gasoline is the tax rate set by the Ministry of Natural Resources for each ton imported at a rate of (25) dollars, as this tax led to a rise in fuel prices, especially gasoline."
He stated that "we asked the Minister of Natural Resources and the Kurdistan government to establish stores to store large quantities of gasoline for the time of fuel crises, where the ministry would then sell what it owned to citizens in the market at an appropriate price. As for the tax, the Ministry of Natural Resources canceled it and worked to regulate import and make Companies that supply high-quality gasoline are checked by a technical staff at the border points and entered after ensuring that international standards are available.
He noted that "these measures contributed to the current decrease in the price of regular gasoline from 750 dinars per liter to 660 dinars," stressing that "the Ministry of Natural Resources is continuing its measures to reduce the price of gasoline."
Babki pointed out that "the Kurdistan Regional Government has announced a program for distributing white oil among citizens during the coming period in preparation for the winter season, and thus will also contribute to lower fuel prices in general." Ended 29/A43
