{International: Al Furat News} Brett McGurk, the US National Security Council's coordinator for Middle East affairs, renewed his assurances that the United States would not leave the region.
In his speech during the “Manama Dialogue 2021,” McGurk said, “I have been asked several times here if the United States is going to leave the Middle East. Let me be clear: The United States is not going anywhere.”
The US official's statements come with the imminent withdrawal of US and combat forces in the international coalition from Iraq, no later than December 31.
It is noteworthy that Iraq and the United States agreed last July, during the fourth and final round of the strategic dialogue, to withdraw all American combat forces from Iraq by the end of this year 2021.
A joint statement at the time stated that the security relationship between the two countries "will move entirely to advice, training and intelligence cooperation, and there will be no presence of US combat forces in Iraq."
The spokesman for the Joint Operations Command, Major General Tahsin al-Khafaji, told {Euphrates News} today: "We have confirmed that the presence of the forces of the international coalition will not be extended."
He added, "All combat forces will leave, and all those who remain are experts and trainers, whose numbers are few, in addition to advisers in the field of drones and intelligence."

And Al-Khafaji said, "The exit of the combat forces will not affect the security of the country, because the Iraqi forces are able to bear the responsibility of fighting ISIS and all that Iraq needs in the field of intelligence and aviation, and we do not need any forces for combat missions."
