Today, Friday, the Ministry of Agriculture clarified the laws of slaughterhouses, while setting standards for importing meat.
The Director of the Health Supervision Department of the massacres in the Veterinary Department, Majed Khalaf, said that "the number of massacres actually operating is 52 red meat massacres and 20 poultry slaughterhouses, out of 103 red meat slaughterhouses and 53 poultry meat," pointing out that "several laws determine the work of these massacres, the first law Municipalities General No. 165 of 1964, as amended, given that massacres are an encroachment on public squares and streets.”
Khalaf added that "the other law is the Ministry of Health Law No. 89 of 1981, Article 96, considering it a random transgression and outside health controls," noting that "violations were recorded related to butcher shops."
He pointed out that "there are 4 violations that were monitored and the massacres were closed temporarily until they are rehabilitated," noting that "during the current year 2021, 200 violations were seized in butcher shops and they were closed in Baghdad and the provinces."
He explained that "the work requirements require building modern slaughterhouses, especially since there is a need to build 60 modern slaughterhouses," noting that "the poultry sector does not cover the actual need, but the current level bodes well."
On the standards for importing meat, Khalaf explained that “the process of importing meat is subject to many standards, including technical and health standards, which are subject to the supervision of several bodies represented by the ministries of agriculture, health and trade.”
Regarding the price of meat and poultry, Khalaf stated that “there is no specific price, because prices are governed by the supply and demand process.”
