The Iraqi diplomacy has expanded its contacts with a number of countries surrounding Ukraine to evacuate its nationals, provide humanitarian support to them, and keep them away from the danger of the ongoing war there, while continuing efforts to search for a missing person through information received from various sides.
"The Iraqi government has given the file of Iraqis in Ukraine great importance in order to protect them," the ministry's spokesman, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, said in a television statement followed by Al-Mada.
Al-Sahaf added, "Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein made a phone call with the Dean of the Iraqi community, Adnan Al-Kazemi, to discuss the conditions of Iraqis in Ukraine, and they stood at common points of view and the most important realistic challenges facing the community."
He pointed out that "the Iraqi embassy in the capital, Kyiv, continues its efforts with the Ukrainian authorities to support the members of the community there, in addition to providing humanitarian support and direct contact, and what is important to us is their safety and finding a place for them."
Al-Sahaf pointed out that "there are leaks that have appeared through the media that an Iraqi citizen has gone missing in Ukraine, and that this news has been confirmed to us, but his full fate is unknown, and we are still coordinating at a high level with the Ukrainian authorities to find out his case and know its circumstances."
He noted, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has some information that it is trying to interrupt with the dean of the community, the Ukrainian authorities and his missing neighbors, to determine the case of the missing," stressing that it is not possible to "speak anything reliable during these hours, or make a statement about something that is not officially established by us." .
Al-Sahaf warned, "The Ukrainian authorities are interested in the matter, and we have contact with the people of the community to find out the closest point and indicator that leads to clear information about this missing person, and when we have information."
And he stated, "The latest statistics received from our embassy in Poland confirmed that more than 600 Iraqis have arrived from Ukraine, and that the embassy is coordinating with the authorities there to provide humanitarian support and the necessary assistance."
Al-Sahaf indicated that "the Iraqi embassy in Romania, in turn, is coordinating at a high level regarding the extension of residency for Iraqis from the community who came from Ukraine."
He stressed, "The diplomatic efforts resulted in the Romanian side accepting that the Iraqis reside on Romanian soil for a period of 90 days from the date of their entry, in addition to other paths of humanitarian support that we are trying to provide at various levels."
Al-Sahaf added that "the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Hungary is following up on the situation of Iraqis in Ukraine and is working to grant urgent entry visas to those who wish to reach Hungary."
It is noteworthy that the Iraqi embassy in Ukraine had urged all Iraqi citizens present on Ukrainian lands to be vigilant and not to visit dangerous areas in the east of the country.
