Shafaq News / The "Victory" coalition led by Haider al-Abadi demanded today, Wednesday, the necessity of responding to the "shameful theft" of the secretariats of the Tax Authority with "accountability and deterrence", revealing doubts about the performance of the commission since the era of the "Abadi government" in 2017.
The coalition said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, "The shameful theft of the secretariats of the General Tax Authority places the state, its financial and supervisory institutions, all state agencies and the political class in front of major responsibilities, starting with reform and not ending with severe penalties for the spoilers," stressing "if this issue does not take its full due. With accountability and deterrence, the state must pardon.”
The coalition added that "this open theft would not have taken place without the conspiracy and cheap service between officials of many state institutions, and the absence of responsibility, care and follow-up as a basic element in the administration of governance."
And the victory coalition continued in its statement that, "For history, there were doubts about the performance of the General Authority for Taxes during the Al-Abadi government (2014-2018), and in order to prevent any possible manipulation, the Prime Minister (Al-Abadi) issued the book numbered (Mr and 5/5). 3047) dated (26/2/2017), assigning the Financial Supervision Bureau to audit all transactions of returning tax and customs deposit amounts starting from (1/1/2015), with an important note: that the Financial Supervision audits the accounts of the Iraqi state after disbursement, explaining "The Diwani order issued in 2017 directs the audit of accounts before disbursement, which is a proactive step to preserve and maintain public money."
The coalition expressed its regret by "cancelling this decision later without giving any convincing justification, so that the largest theft of public money will take place," noting that "this theft should not and cannot pass without a responsible and firm stance that restores the state's order, strength and prestige against every saboteur, spoiler and cheap one."
While hosting Ministry of Finance officials in the Iraqi parliament, today, Wednesday, the First Deputy of Parliament questioned the reason for the decision to cancel the Financial Supervisory Authority specialized in auditing and controlling financial expenditures, without a clear response from the ministry, according to an informed source.
Today, Wednesday, the Parliamentary Integrity Committee announced that it will prepare a detailed report on the theft of two and a half billion dollars from the amounts of tax trusts in the Rafidain Bank.
Last Saturday, Acting Finance Minister Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar announced the theft of an estimated two and a half billion dollars in tax funds from the Rafidain State Bank.
And Abdul-Jabbar, who is currently the Minister of Oil, said in a tweet on his Twitter account, "The Prime Minister graciously agreed to our request regarding exemption from the duties of the acting Ministry of Finance."
He pointed out, "The results of the investigation that we directed after we were assigned to the ministry, and the official evidence of the theft of an amount of 3.7 trillion Iraqi dinars (2.5 billion dollars) in tax funds / Rafidain Bank by a specific group."
