Today, Wednesday, Iraq won the membership of the Steering Committee of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, after obtaining the votes of members of all West and Central Asian countries to represent them in that committee.
The Ministry of Water Resources said in a statement received by the National News Center: "After this important achievement, Iraq has the right to vote on all decisions and initiatives that are issued by the Supreme Secretariat of the Convention."
The statement explained that the ministry "will be able to reduce the risks that the country is currently going through under conditions of drought and water scarcity, in coordination and cooperation with the rest of the relevant countries and the signatories to the agreement."
A delegation from the Ministry of Water Resources is participating in the meetings of the 14th International Conference COP 14 of the States Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, which is currently being held in Geneva / Switzerland.
