The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs estimated, on Wednesday, that there are about nine million families entitled to social protection salaries.
The head of the Social Protection Authority in the ministry, Ahmed Khalaf Laibi, said in a press statement, "More than four million and 400,000 families in Baghdad and the provinces, in addition to 300,000 families registered under the Food Security Law, are covered by social protection benefits and salaries, while there are similar numbers of poor families." And lacking a breadwinner, she lives in slum areas in Baghdad, and the governorates need to be covered by the ministry.
Luaibi added, "The ministry has deliberately targeted the poorest families, as well as paying attention to the appeals and critical cases that the field monitoring team is responsible for visiting, examining their conditions, and examining the possibility of including them with the ministry's services."
He pointed out that "the ministry is currently working on developing solutions and remedies to improve the situation of families benefiting from social protection, by granting beneficiaries who are able to work soft loans."
