Shafaq News/ Today, Monday, the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources revealed a plan for the reclamation of agricultural land and the water situation in Iraq, and while it indicated that it is between stable and anxious, it expressed its hope that the Iraqi delegation would visit Turkey in the coming days after this visit was postponed due to the earthquake. .
The Ministry's spokesman, Khaled Shamal, told Shafaq News agency, "The Ministry of Water Resources, within its annual plans, implements large reclamation projects, and also works to maintain previously implemented reclamation projects."
Shamal explained, "The idea and goal of reclamation is to improve the yield of land cultivation and make it productive, in an economically and irrigatively feasible way. When the land is reclaimed agriculturally, it means using it in the future with the least effort, amount of water, and cost, and at the same time giving more productivity."
Shamal added, "The Ministry of Water Resources is reclaiming certain areas, and these areas are distributed over all governorates of Iraq, and there is an ambitious step to reach the farthest possible extents of reclamation, and push towards modern irrigation techniques and the use of closed irrigation, which is piped irrigation and piped water transportation."
    agricultural plan
A spokesman for the Ministry of Water Resources pointed out that "the rice crop is linked to water releases, as it needs a large water consumption, and therefore it is not possible to allow the cultivation of this crop without restriction or rationing in order to preserve the water shares of the governorates that fall behind the governorates that produce this crop." which are Najaf and Diwaniya for the most part.
He continued, "The ministry maintains the delivery of water to all governorates within the water quotas, and it is not allowed to encroach on the agricultural plan or the areas determined within the agricultural plan agreed upon with the Ministry of Agriculture."

Shamal confirmed, "The Ministry of Water Resources supports the production of national and strategic crops, including rice, within a specific plan to be agreed upon with the Ministry of Agriculture."
    between stable and anxious
On Iraq's water revenues, a spokesman for the Ministry of Water Resources stated, "Iraq is a country at the mouth of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, and therefore more than 70% of Iraq's water revenues come from neighboring water countries, 50% from Turkey, 15% from Iran, and 5% from Syria." This requires permanent and continuous coordination with these countries to ensure the delivery of the water share.
Shamal pointed out that "Iraq's water situation is between stable and worrying, and it is linked to three basic issues with the water neighboring countries, which is the implementation of these countries' dams and major reform projects without coordination with the Iraqi side, and the policy of operating these projects, as well as the rain and snowfall in these countries." countries as source countries.
And he added, "The Ministry of Water Resources reconstituted the Iraqi delegation negotiating with Turkey, and it was hoped that there would be approvals to visit this team during the previous recent period, but the current conditions that Turkey is going through from the earthquake postponed this visit, and we hope that communication will take place with the Turkish side." Through diplomatic channels to achieve this visit in the coming days.
