    Baghdad Today - translation
On Tuesday, the CEO of the French company Total Energy, Patrick Pouyani, revealed that his company "continued to wait" for the Iraqi government to continue implementing the deal concluded in 2021 with the previous authorities, including the development of the energy sector in Iraq.
And Boyani indicated, according to what was reported by Reuters today and translated (Baghdad Today), that the deal concluded with the previous Iraqi government in September 2021 is still "not implemented", pending the approval of the new government headed by Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani on its terms.
He explained, "The new government, after its assignment last year, did not communicate with Total Energy about completing the deal, as it objected at the time to the joint ratios between the company and the authorities in Baghdad," continuing, "The new government insisted on owning 40% of the project, which was not agreed upon." it so far.”
The director confirmed, according to his statements to the agency, "Until now, we do not understand the position of the Iraqi government, and to be honest, I do not wish to expose the company to multiple risks, especially in Iraq, where the investment environment represents great dangers," stressing, "I tried to communicate with the Iraqi government last month, and we did not get an official answer." ".
The director of the company also stressed that his company cannot start implementing the agreed projects, which will continue to invest for a period of 25 years in Iraq, with an investment worth ten billion dollars during its initial stages, unless it gets a "clear political answer from the authorities in Baghdad," according to him. Saying it.
The French official's statements come in conjunction with assurances made by Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani last Sunday, during which he confirmed that negotiations with France's Total Energy had reached "advanced stages", according to his description, which was not confirmed by the French director of the company.
Total Energy had signed a contract with Baghdad, in 2021, to build projects in the fields of oil, gas and renewable energy, with initial investments of $10 billion, in southern Iraq, for a period of 25 years, according to information seen by the specialized energy platform.
It is noteworthy that Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani revealed two days ago that Iraq's talks with the French company Total Energy, to resolve the sticking points in the long-awaited deal to build 4 oil and gas projects, have reached advanced stages, as they are expected to be activated soon.
Sources had announced that Iraq had asked for a share of about 40% of the projects, which is the main sticking point that the French company objected to, which wants to obtain a majority stake, according to Reuters news agency.
In response to a question about resolving the crisis, the minister said that the time is not appropriate to discuss quotas in projects, but it will be announced when an agreement is reached, explaining that his country has obligated some oil companies operating in the south to reduce oil production, within the framework of the OPEC + agreement.
