Parliamentary services indicate waste in the reconstruction funds

The Parliamentary Services Committee saw that there are funds wasted in reconstruction funds that are useless, noting that the next stage will be its priorities for infrastructure and roads.
The Fund for the Reconstruction of Areas Affected by Terrorism was established in 2015 to be a device that coordinates between international organizations and Iraqi ministries in rapid reconstruction operations, and implements medium and long-term reconstruction operations in areas liberated from the control of ISIS terrorist gangs.
In the latest statistics published by the Reconstruction Fund on its official website, the number of completed projects from 2016 to 2021 reached 1,473, out of 1,643 that were planned to be completed, and thus the completion rate reached 90 percent.
The second deputy head of the Parliamentary Services Committee, Dawood Al-Aidan, told Al-Sabah: The committee agreed that priority should be given to real strategic projects in the infrastructure and roads sectors, noting that his committee saw that there are money wasted in the so-called reconstruction funds.
Al-Eidani promised that these funds are useless, calling for investing them to improve the infrastructure in the areas for which they were established.
He added that the committee, through its meetings, discussed the complete absence of real strategic projects for services, which prompted it to meet with the Minister of Construction, Housing, Municipalities and Public Works, to meet the Mayor of Baghdad and the governors, and to emphasize the targeting of real strategic projects in all those areas.
Al-Aidan warned of future water scarcity that will hit the southern governorates in the coming months of July or September, pointing out that the Islah and Sayed Dakhil districts began to suffer from scarcity since the winter and will worsen in the summer.
Al-Eidani called for the establishment of projects to provide drinking water for citizens in the districts that will suffer from this crisis, instead of wasting money in luxury projects that are not completed, stressing that the members of the committee will monitor the amounts and expenses that will be allocated in the budget for the implementation of strategic projects.
