Trade replaces Thai rice with American

The Ministry of Commerce is heading to import rice from American origin instead of Thai, noting that the food basket will include more than 5 million and 200 thousand people.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry, Sattar Al-Jabri, told Al-Sabah: "We are studying improving the ration card items during the next stage," noting that "there are some observations about rice imported from Thailand, and accordingly the ministry intends to import this material from other origins, most notably the United States." Al-Jabri added that the ministry "is receiving care, care and follow-up of its work by the Sudanese prime minister and has made it among the priorities of his government programme, which has caused a qualitative shift and development in its work for the better during the last stage, despite the delay in approving the budget until last June." The Undersecretary pointed out that "the self-sufficiency of wheat has been achieved for the first year after it exceeded 5 million tons, while the actual need is approximately 4,000 tons."
