Inside a secret place in Baghdad, there is one of the treasures of the royal era in Iraq.. It is the royal cars that include a gift that Germany presented to King Ghazi, who ruled Iraq between 1933 and 1939, and later caused his death in a mysterious traffic accident.

In the midst of the most crowded neighborhoods of old Baghdad and inside an underground hideout lies one of the most wonderful treasures of the royal era in Iraq. They are the royal era cars kept by the Baghdad Municipality and preserved as if they were just made in preparation for displaying them to the public in a museum that the Municipality is working to create specifically for these rare artifacts.

Muhammad al-Rubaie, media director of the Baghdad Municipality, says: "These cars have become, for years, a national treasure in international and Arab museums, as the Baghdad Municipality owns approximately 30 classic cars and other royal cars of high value."

Adolf Hitler's gift to King Ghazi is the most expensive among these treasures, as it is a car out of three cars in the world that were made especially for Hitler, and only this masterpiece that Hitler gave to King Ghazi remains as a token of friendship between Germany and Iraq at the height of the war between the Allies and the Axis Powers.

All German attempts to recover this car failed despite holding multiple rounds of talks with the Iraqi government in the eighties of the last century.

Adel Ardawi, an expert in Iraqi heritage, adds about these cars, saying: “After the revolution of July 14, 1958, the property of the palaces of all kinds officially returned to the municipality of Baghdad, including these cars, which include rare cars such as those donated by Adolf Hitler to King Ghazi, which still maintain their shape.” It is of a rare type in the world, not only in Iraq.

The museum to be established also includes royal chariots, one of which was given by the late Queen of Britain to King Faisal when he was crowned on the throne of Iraq.

The Royal Cars Museum, which the Municipality of Baghdad intends to establish, will serve as a living memory that re-thinks new generations about one of the eras of Iraq's modern history.
