, Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, stressed on Saturday the need to support women and place them on the priorities of the state's national agenda.
Al-Halbousi said in his speech during a celebration on the occasion of the Islamic Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women in its 15th session, which was held by the National Wisdom Movement in the capital, Baghdad, and was attended by Mawazine News: "We are here today to exchange ideas and cooperate in order to provide better conditions for the reality of women in Iraqi society." .
He added, "It is a matter of reassurance that the phenomenon of violence against women is a reprehensible and disgraceful practice that our society views with contempt, and every time it occurs it is accompanied by immediate and firm action from all institutions and individuals in society."
He continued: "We are fully aware of the challenges and problems that women face in light of the current circumstances, and we are aware that a number of circumstances have contributed to the alarming growth of the phenomenon, and among the most serious of these reasons is the economic reality on the one hand and the escalation of the drug abuse epidemic on the other hand, which requires collective, conscious and serious action." And cooperation between all social, governmental and civil sectors to combat this disgraceful phenomenon, which puts us at the heart of social, moral and legal responsibility to put women in the priorities of our national agenda.”
He stressed that "the political, societal, religious and cultural forces in Iraq bear the responsibility of the union in confronting this phenomenon to provide support and assistance to the government so that it takes strong measures to enforce laws related to women's rights on the ground and work on drafting the necessary laws and amendments to enable them to perform their national duties in society."
He stressed that "the House of Representatives is fully prepared to approve these legislations and amendments, which serve this goal and achieve the general interest of the individual and society." Ended 29 / H
