Iraq aspires, through its participation in the twenty-eighth conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), to obtain significant international support to limit the climate changes occurring in it.
Amir Ali Al-Hassoun, Director General of the Awareness and Information Department at the Ministry of Environment, said, in an interview with "Al-Sabah": "Iraq will participate in the conference, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates, with a delegation headed by Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani and representatives of all sectors and ministries concerned with climate change, such as agriculture and resources." Water, oil, electricity, environment and health, in addition to civil society organizations, activists, experts, academics and university professors.
Al-Hassoun added, "The delegation brings with it Iraq's positions towards environmental problems resulting from climate change, in addition to a large agenda on mitigation and adaptation projects to face the effects of these changes," noting that "Iraq aspires to obtain significant international support through the Green Climate Fund allocated to countries with the most fragility and vulnerability to climatic changes." He pointed to "studying and preparing projects in a high level by government ministries and under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment," reiterating Iraq's participation in the conference as "it will be the largest and best at the level of countries in the conferences of parties that were previously held."
