India imposed customs duties of 40% on onion exports in an attempt to calm the increasing domestic prices.
India, the largest exporter of onions in the world, said that: Customs duties are in the public interest and will remain in effect until December 11.
According to the Indian Directorate General of Statistics and Trade, the UAE is considered the most Arab country importing Indian onions with 97.3 million dollars, followed by Qatar with 21 million dollars, Oman comes in third with 15.9 million dollars, then Kuwait fourth with 12 million dollars, and Iraq comes fifth. With $9.4 million, while Saudi Arabia ranked sixth with $7.2 million, Bahrain came seventh with $7.1 million, and Lebanon came eighth with $40,000.
