Iraq welcomes the reopening of the Austrian Embassy

Yesterday, Tuesday, Iraq welcomed the reopening of the Austrian Embassy in Baghdad. President Abdel-Latif Jamal Rashid promised that the step would contribute to strengthening relations, while Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani received an official invitation to visit Vienna.
A statement from the Presidency of the Republic stated, “The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received yesterday, Tuesday, at Baghdad Palace, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Challenberg and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein,” noting that “The President of the Republic welcomed, at the beginning of the meeting, the opening of the Austrian embassy.” in Iraq" .
Rashid stressed, according to the statement, that “this step aims to improve relations, and contributes to enhancing constructive cooperation in areas of common interest and in a way that achieves the mutual interests of the two countries and peoples,” pointing to “the general conditions in the country,” and stated that “Iraq emphasizes the establishment of relations Good with the international community,” pointing out “the necessity of cooperation and coordination on priority issues, especially combating terrorism, economic and trade cooperation, and joint work in order to confront the effects of climate change and protect the environment.”
For his part, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Challenberg indicated "his country's support for the stability of Iraq and the security of its citizens," and added that he "discussed with Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein the reopening of the Austrian embassy in Iraq," noting that he "is visiting Iraq for the first time with a delegation of businessmen who... Look at the positive developments, especially in the field of enhancing security and stability.”
He pointed to "the importance of coordination in the areas of climate change," stressing "his country's desire to cooperate in the field of water management and to benefit from the expertise and treatments that were applied to the Danube River to confront the water crisis."
Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani also received the Austrian Foreign Minister, and a statement from his media office stated, “At the beginning of the meeting, Al-Sudani welcomed the reopening of the Austrian embassy in Baghdad, and the delegation’s visit, which will witness the signing of a number of memorandums of understanding in the fields of security, transportation, and economic cooperation,” noting. “The meeting witnessed businessmen and company representatives reviewing the most important work files, capabilities and expertise possessed by their companies and their previous experiences in several economic and technological fields.”
For his part, the guest minister conveyed “the greetings of the Austrian Chancellor and his invitation to the Prime Minister to visit Austria in order to discuss more opportunities for bilateral partnership,” expressing the desire “to be present in Iraq, deepen and strengthen the relationship, and develop the partnership between the two countries at various levels.”
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, received the Austrian Foreign Minister, and during the meeting, bilateral relations between the two countries were discussed, and the development of cooperation in a number of fields, including security, economy, and transportation, in addition to cooperation at the parliamentary level, activating friendship committees, and exchanging experiences.
Al-Halbousi stressed, according to a statement from his office, that the House of Representatives was keen to support the government to continue expanding its relations with friends and achieving economic partnerships in various sectors and strategic projects.
Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein held a press conference with his Austrian counterpart, Alexander Challenberg, and Hussein said: “He discussed with his Austrian counterpart a number of files, most notably the political relations between the two countries, as well as the work of Austrian companies in Iraq and the restoration of flights to Austrian Airlines,” pointing out that “The discussions included opening the way and way to help Austrian Airlines return its flights to Iraq.”
He added, "The return of Austrian aviation is very important to link Iraq to Europe," noting that "Iraq seeks to restore direct flights to Europe instead of transit through Turkey and Qatar," and pointed out that "the security agreement with Austria does not mean adding foreign forces to Iraq." Pointing out that "the security agreement with Austria is based on advice, training and mutual cooperation."
