Oil and General Electric are discussing associated gas investment projects

Baghdad: Muhammad Al-Ansari,
Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Hayyan Abdul-Ghani, expressed the Ministry’s keenness to support rapid energy solutions projects for investing in associated gas and converting it into useful energy, in cooperation with reputable specialized international companies. This came during his meeting with Medhat Al-Marabi, Executive Director of Mobile Energy Units. At General Electric Energy Company in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and his accompanying delegation.
Abdul Ghani said, according to a statement from his office, that “investing burned gas and converting it into useful productive energy is of interest to the government program and the ministry’s plans,” noting that “the ministry has achieved advanced steps in the fields of Basra, Maysan, and Dhi Qar, leading to plans to stop burning gas during the next few years.” ", praising the cooperation and efforts made by international companies to achieve the goal of the government and the ministry in this regard, including General Electric Energy Company.
For his part, the official at General Electric said: “The meeting included an emphasis on the strategic partnership between the Ministry of Oil and General Electric, and praising the government’s role in the projects that the company is implementing in the energy sector throughout Iraq.”
Al-Marabi stated that “the meeting also discussed the technical presentation presented by General Electric Company for quick solutions to benefit from burned associated gas to produce electrical energy by benefiting from the company’s jet turbine technology, and the proposal to sign a framework agreement on the sidelines of the Climate Conference” COP28.
On the other hand, Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani said, during an inspection tour of the Najaf refinery: The Ministry is keen to increase and improve the refining capacities of national refineries, and to support sincere efforts to achieve its goals and plans.
He explained that the Najaf refinery is one of the important refineries that the Iraqi Ministry of Oil aims to increase and improve its refining capacity, by adding new production units with a capacity of 70 thousand barrels per day, with the aim of improving the quality of its oil products, pointing to the importance of the refinery in processing “naphtha” in quantities of up to 825 thousand liters per day, in addition to 650 liters per day of kerosene, and 650 thousand liters per day of gas oil, according to what was stated in a statement by the ministry.
The Najaf Refinery also works on processing, producing and supplying “black oil” to electrical power stations in the Najaf and Karbala governorates, in quantities of approximately 6 million liters per day.
Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani inspected the production units, met with workers and officials, and was briefed on the progress of refining operations and listened to a summary of the progress of the production process and public services, from the refinery director, Laith Abdul Rasoul
