Iran reveals a new account of the night of Soleimani’s assassination and the attack on Al-Assad’s Iraqi base

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said, “America sent a message to Iran, minutes after the Iranian missile attack on the Ain al-Asad base in Iraq,” in response to the assassination of the commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Qassem Soleimani.
Abdullahian explained, in his speech, that “a few minutes after this attack, the Americans sent a message to stop and end it,” noting that “US President Donald Trump, at the time, had announced, in the media, that if Iran showed the slightest reaction to America’s actions, or if a bullet is fired from a simple rifle against American interests in the region, America will simultaneously target 52 strategic sites in Iran,” according to the Iranian News Agency - “IRNA.”
Abdullahian added, “America sent messages to the Islamic Republic of Iran, stating that they know that Iran has taken the decision to retaliate and respond to this action and that this revenge will be achieved. Therefore, America has expressed its willingness to cancel part of the sanctions imposed on Iran, in exchange for Iran not responding to this terrorist attack.” “.
Abdullahian continued: “The Islamic Republic of Iran’s response to the American messages is that it will act based on its decision taken in this regard.”
The Iranian Foreign Minister revealed that, “On the third day of the death of Qassem Soleimani, in which the funeral and burial ceremonies were held, the Americans presented an interesting and surprising message, in which they expressed their willingness to determine how Iran will take revenge on them. The truth is that they will determine this matter, and after revenge they will remain silent.” He stressed that “Iran responded, in this context, by ignoring these messages as well.”
Abdullahian considered, “The Iranian attack on the Ain al-Assad base, at that stage, was a necessary slap to the Americans, so that the American position changed from threatening and threatening to target strategic sites deep inside Iran, to weak pleading not to respond, take revenge, and stop the attack,” he said.
The US Army carried out the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, with a missile strike near Baghdad International Airport, on January 3, 2020.
The operation in which Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Forces in Iraq, was also assassinated, led to escalation of tension between the United States of America and Iran, which pledged strong revenge.
The Iranian army responded, a few days after the operation, by launching missiles at the “Ain al-Assad” base, the largest American base in Iraq.
American forces in Iraq were also subjected to a series of attacks by Iraqi groups loyal to Iran, the most recent of which was last December 20, when missiles were fired at the Green Zone in the capital, Baghdad, where the most fortified military sites in Iraq are located, in addition to containing them. On the headquarters of the US Embassy and the headquarters of other governmental and foreign organizations and agencies.
