    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Thursday (October 19, 2023), Representative Thaer Makhif Al-Jubouri revealed the reasons for not passing the path of development in the Kurdistan Region.
Al-Jubouri said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The development road is a strategic project that will move Iraq to an important stage in the list of pivotal countries in international transport routes, especially from Southeast Asia towards Europe, because of its positive aspects that can be counted in 9 points, most notably cost and time."
He added, "The development road will start from Basra and from there to Baghdad and then Nineveh without passing through the governorates of the Kurdistan region because of the latter's geography, which requires additional costs estimated at 3 billion dollars, which prompted Baghdad to apologize for passing through the region because proceeding through Nineveh would be easier and its completion time would be less." ".
He pointed out that "the list of countries interested in the project is increasing day after day, and Turkey is at the forefront because it realizes its economic importance in creating unprecedented activity in addition to its role in creating a pioneering economic partnership with Baghdad that will be the beginning of resolving many outstanding issues, including water."
Earlier, PEG, the company designing the development project, announced the details of the project and its features, saying that it serves all countries of the region, not just Iraq.
Bruno Trigta, Vice President of the company PEG, which designed the Development Road Project, said in a press statement, “The path of the Development Road was chosen based on terrain data, and the project study was based on the completion of the pre-feasibility study for the Grand Faw Port Project.”
He added, "The project is a major opportunity for the Iraqis as it will contribute to reviving the Iraqi economy, develop the commercial and economic sector and renewable energy in Iraq, and contribute to transporting goods from the south to the north at the lowest time and cost."
The company's vice president pointed out that "the route of the joint transportation line for passengers and goods was chosen outside the cities and there are no tunnels on the way." He stressed that "the project does not serve Iraq alone, but rather serves all countries of the region."
Last May, the Development Road Conference was concluded in the capital, Baghdad, with the participation of transport ministers or their representatives from countries. Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey, Jordan, Syria, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman, in addition to representatives of the European Union and the World Bank.
During the conference, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani stressed that there is “present and future importance to the development road project, and the interconnection of the reasons for the economic integration of the countries of the region with the interests and partnerships that the road path and all projects related to it will enhance.”
According to the Ministry of Transport, the Strategic Development Road project starts from Basra Governorate and passes through ten Iraqi governorates, reaching Turkey and then to Europe, linking the trade of the east of the world with the west, while annual profits will reach approximately (4) billion dollars, in addition to providing (100) thousand job opportunities.
