{Local: Al-Furat News} The head of the Border Ports Authority, Major General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, chaired the tenth meeting of the Authority’s Council for the year 2023 in the presence of all its members at the Authority’s headquarters today, Monday.

The authority stated in a statement, a copy of which {Al-Furat News} received, that: “The Council discussed what was stated in the letter of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers regarding the study submitted by the Ministry of Transport / General Company for Land Transport, which includes unifying shipping documents and adopting one document for all procedures and services provided by the company and changing Naming it, reducing the wages collected, and approving it as one of the documents in the procedures taken to clear the goods.”
She indicated, “The Council’s approval of what was presented by the representative of the Standardization Organization for Quality Control regarding the Mutual Recognition Program for the SASO Certificate of Conformity and Release signed between the Republic of Iraq and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to inspect goods and urging the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control to conclude similar agreements with other neighboring countries to facilitate the process of pre-examination and the like.” It has positive implications for ensuring the protection of the Iraqi consumer.”
The Commission added, "The Council also decided to submit a recommendation to the Ministerial Economic Council that includes reconsidering the customs exemption agreement for imported Jordanian goods because it has had a significant impact on government revenues at a time when the government seeks to maximize non-oil revenues, while the Council discussed the mechanism for evacuating accumulated containers that have exceeded the period." The legal requirements for them to remain at the border crossings, especially the sea crossings (ports), where it was agreed to double the efforts made by the customs centers and all departments working at the border crossings to evacuate the accumulated containers.
She continued, "The Council also discussed the requirements for the commercial exchange yard at the Arar border crossing, as well as emphasizing the completion of those requirements, reducing the handling fees at the yard, and submitting a recommendation to the Iraqi-Saudi Council for the purpose of obtaining approval to extend the period of development work, while attaching follow-up reports of the work, which does not amount to restarting the yard due to the lack of "Its readiness."
The Authority confirmed that "the Council will continue to hold its meetings periodically to maintain the flow of work, overcome obstacles, and find effective and thoughtful solutions to any emergency."
