{Politics: Al-Furat News} The Prime Minister’s Advisor for Foreign Relations, Farhad Alaeddin, announced that the third edition of the Baghdad Conference for Regional Stability, which was scheduled for the end of this November and in which French President Emmanuel Macron would participate, was postponed “until further notice” against the backdrop of “events.” Regional".
Agence France-Presse quoted Aladdin on Thursday as saying that the Baghdad 2023 Conference for Economic Integration and Regional Stability “has been postponed until further notice, against the backdrop of regional events, especially what is happening in Palestine.”
The French newspaper Le Figaro had previously published in an article that the international conference scheduled to be held in the capital, Baghdad, had been postponed.
Aladdin confirmed the information reported by the French newspaper Le Figaro in this regard.
The government was scheduled to host a third regional conference this year to discuss regional stability, with the participation of presidents and senior officials from countries in the region and the world. But the current political developments and the ongoing war in Gaza will prevent this.
During the past two years, the previous two editions of the conference, 2021-2022, were held in Baghdad and Amman, in the presence of regional and international presidents and leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, during which major challenges facing Iraq in particular and the countries of the region and the world in general were discussed, including terrorism, water scarcity, and climate change.
This new version of the Baghdad conference was supposed to be held in the Iraqi capital at the end of the month in the presence of Macron, and it aims to "unify a regional agenda to support Iraq's sovereignty," as the French president said last August.
Israel has launched a devastating bombing campaign on the Gaza Strip since October 7, in response to an unprecedented attack launched by the Palestinian Hamas movement against the entity. The ongoing war claimed the lives of about 9,000 martyrs, while more than 2,000 people are still missing under the rubble, so far.
Defending the Palestinian cause in Iraq enjoys a consensus that transcends political differences, and Iraq does not recognize Israel, like Iran and many Arab countries.
Since the beginning of the war, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani denounced the "genocide" that he accused the "Zionist occupation" of committing against the Palestinian people.
In addition, American forces and international coalition forces deployed in Iraq for two weeks have been subjected to missile and drone attacks.
