The Ministry of Commerce reported that it was able to curb the attempts of some weak-minded people to raise the prices of goods and foodstuffs, attributing the reason to the fact that the ration items maintained price stability, while pointing out its intention to add cheese and adult milk to the ration items.
The ministry’s spokesman, Muthanna Al-Fariji, told Al-Sabah that “trade has begun accelerating the distribution of the penultimate food basket for this year, to limit exploitation by merchants,” noting that “there is one food basket that will be distributed at the end of 2023 and it will be of the same quality and specifications.” .
Al-Fariji added, “The Ministry had previously announced a proposal to add new items to the food basket, including zero-fat flour, cheese, and adult milk,” hinting at “the possibility of implementing the proposal next year after studying and approving it.”
He pointed out that “thanks to the commitment to pay the financial allocations due to the Ministry, we were able to organize the food basket,” praising “the government’s support and commitment to organizing ration items for citizens.” Al-Fariji stressed that the food basket contributed to stabilizing the prices of food basket items and lowering the prices of rice and flour
. in the markets.
For his part, the economist and former director of the Financial Supervision Bureau, Salah Nour, told Al-Sabah: The distribution of food basket items helped stabilize the prices of basic foodstuffs, pointing out the need to ensure their smooth distribution.
Nouri added that there is a need to take into account the nutritional value of the quantity and quality of the materials provided by the Ministry, noting that as the food basket items continue to be distributed, there will be a decline in their prices in local markets.
