    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
The leader in the coordination framework, Ali Al-Zubaidi, revealed today, Saturday (January 6, 2024), the freezing of dialogues between the blocs and political parties regarding agreement on the new Speaker of Parliament.
Al-Zubaidi told "Baghdad Today", "The dialogues and negotiations between all blocs and parties regarding the file of choosing the new speaker of parliament are frozen and there is no development and progress in this regard."
He stated, “The dialogues and negotiations were frozen due to the provincial council elections and the security events and developments taking place in the Iraqi arena, and perhaps these dialogues will be repeated again after the approval of the election results, so that they will be part of the negotiations to form local governments.”
It is noteworthy that disagreements continue between the political forces over the nomination of the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, to succeed former President Muhammad al-Halbousi, whose membership was terminated by the Federal Supreme Court on charges of forgery, while various political parties confirm that there are no immediate solutions to this crisis.
During the last period, the Iraqi Parliament failed twice to hold a session to elect a new president, due to not achieving a quorum, and various political parties boycotted the sessions, because no candidate was passed before a political consensus was reached among the political parties.
The rapporteur of the House of Representatives, Beida Khadr, had previously announced that “the session to elect the Speaker of Parliament will be held in early 2024, and the Acting First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, stressed the necessity of holding a parliamentary session to elect the Speaker of the House (this month), but a specific day has not been determined.” "For the session."
