Parliamentary Defense reveals imminent changes in the security ministries: sustainment and comprehensive evaluation

Member of the Parliamentary Security Committee, Yasser Iskandar Watut, revealed expected changes in the structure of Iraq’s security ministries. Wattut said in a press interview followed by Al-Mada: “Change and continuing the infusion of new blood into Iraq’s institutions, whether security or civilian, is a necessity in accordance with principles that rely on a comprehensive evaluation that leads to achieving the goal of change, which is to improve the effort in serving security and society alike.”
He added, “Important changes will soon reach headlines in the Ministry of Defense,” noting that “the issue was discussed with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, who in turn confirmed that his government is moving on the path of change in a way that enhances the security system’s ability to fulfill its mission.”
Wattut pointed to “the importance of distancing the military institution from any political influence,” directing his message to all political forces with “the necessity of supporting the independence of the security and military and that the responsibility for managing security rests with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.”
Earlier, the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee commented on the recent implementation of broad security changes in Baghdad, and indicated that it supports these changes, indicating that the choices must be in accordance with professional standards related to integrity, competence, and experience.
Committee member Hussein Al-Amiri said, “Making some changes in security positions in some security agencies, whether in Baghdad or the rest of the governorates, is a very important matter. There must be periodic changes, and no security or military leader should remain in his position for long years, as this has many negatives.”
Al-Amiri stressed that “the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee supports making security changes, and the choices must be made in accordance with professional standards related to integrity, competence and experience, and any favoritism or political or other interference in the issue of choosing security and military leaders must be excluded, as this file must remain a purely professional file.”
Since Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani assumed the position of Prime Minister, he has made changes in all state institutions, with the aim of “injecting new blood,” which observers considered to be in the interest of building institutions, especially the Iraqi security and armed forces, to preserve the security of the citizen and the sovereignty of the country.
