On September 5, 2014, the establishment of the “International Coalition,” led by the United States, was announced during the administration of former US President Barack Obama, following the terrorist organization ISIS’s invasion of vast areas of Iraq, as well as its control over various cities and towns in northern and eastern Syria.
Britain, France, Australia, and Germany were the first countries to join the coalition, before it gradually expanded in the weeks following the announcement, to reach 86 entities (81 countries and 5 international and regional organizations).
