Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: Many representatives and political figures are making calls to refrain from using political money as a means to obstruct the selection of a new president for the Iraqi parliament.
The continuous accusations of political money and loyalties sparked criticism that they caused the Council’s entire work to falter, especially in not voting on laws during the term of Muhammad al-Halbousi.
In another context, some political voices accuse some forces of not being serious about neutralizing political influence and money, demanding the importance of deciding the vote on the Speaker of the House of Representatives. While the Council awaits the decision of the Federal Supreme Court regarding the constitutionality of the previous session, which disrupted the session to elect the president.
Tensions increase as some Sunni forces refuse to appoint a new figure to parliament who is far from Anbar Governorate or outside the framework of party loyalties, which ignites conflict between Sunni forces and weakens the chances of consensus and stability at the current stage.
Representatives in Parliament speak of: “An urgent need to move away from the politics of money and loyalties in electing the Speaker of Parliament, in order to ensure the achievement of a real choice that expresses the aspirations of the Iraqi people.”
Political activist Bashir Al-Khafaji spoke about the fact that “political forces do not have political loyalty from the people, and what matters to them are forums and personal gains, which makes it necessary to work to improve the political situation and avoid using money to achieve personal interests.”
Blogger Ali Jaber says: “Voting on the Speaker of Parliament is a vital matter, and there must be seriousness in dealing with this process and achieving national consensus.”
Experts believe that the use of political money in Iraqi elections is one of the main reasons for the weakness of democracy in the country, as it leads to the election of unqualified members who are not committed to the interests of the people.”
But the use of political money in Iraqi elections is a natural phenomenon in light of the weakness of the country's political and economic institutions, and it is difficult to eliminate it completely.
