The Radiation Protection Center at the Ministry of Environment announced today, Monday, that the Al-Baraka area in Al-Husseiniyah District in the Holy Karbala Governorate is free of any radioactive contamination.
The Director of the Holy Karbala Environment, Hamid Obaid, said in a statement received by “Al-Iqtisad News” that “the supervisory teams represented by the Radiation Protection Division team of the Directorate conducted a radiation survey on the Al-Husseiniyah area in response to the requests of a number of citizens due to the presence of disease cases,” stressing that “readings Field scanning devices showed that there was no indication of radioactive contamination.”
He pointed out, "Environmental samples of soil and water were drawn from a number of homes to be examined in the center's laboratories, where the results proved their radiological safety."
He added, "The Radiation Protection Center and the people in the governorate directorates are keen to conduct a radiological environmental assessment of sites of questionable radiological safety, in order to provide a safe environment free of manifestations of radioactive contamination."
