Today, Thursday (February 22, 2024), Gharib Askar, representative of the Coordination Framework, confirmed that there is no new development regarding the election of a new Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Askar said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "Despite all the dialogues and negotiations during the past days regarding the election of a new speaker of the House of Representatives, there are no significant developments or developments so far regarding this crisis, and it still exists without any solutions."
He stated that "the solution to the crisis is linked to consensus between the Sunni political parties, and we, as forces in the coordination framework, have worked and are still working to bring viewpoints closer between the Sunni forces, but there is nothing new and the differences continue without offering any concessions or solutions for settlement between the conflicting parties."
In November 2023, the Federal Court decided to terminate the membership of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi, on the grounds of his tampering with official papers, which placed the Council in a presidential vacuum until now, amid conflicts between the forces holding the reins of power in the chair.
