    A government meeting on the banking sector on Thursday took several decisions, including the preparation of a plan on the repayment of non-performing loans.

    [ltr]The office of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said in a statement that the latter "chaired, on Thursday, a meeting that included the Minister of Finance, the governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, and a number of concerned advisers, in the presence of the director general of the Iraqi Trade Bank."

    The meeting discussed "a number of issues related to the government banking sector, related to government debts and non-performing private sector loans, and took a number of decisions on them."

    [ltr]The decisions included "the Ministry of Finance to start paying government debts to the Iraqi Trade Bank, and preparing a plan to be presented to the Council of Ministers regarding the payment of non-performing loans owed by the private sector to government banks, including the Iraqi Trade Bank."[/ltr]
