    Economy News - Baghdad
On Saturday, the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that plans for agricultural seasons are linked to the use of modern irrigation systems, while confirming that they are available to farmers at 40% subsidized prices and installments paid over 10 years.
The advisor to the Ministry of Agriculture, Mahdi Damad Al-Qaisi, said in a statement reported by the official news agency, and seen by Al-Iqtisad News, that “Minister of Agriculture Abbas Jabr Al-Maliki signed a contract last month with the Austrian company Bauer, to supply Iraq with six thousand modern sprinkler irrigation systems with different capacities, and they will be sold at prices.” Subsidized by 40% and in installments over 10 years.”

He pointed out that "there is a strong demand among farmers for modern systems after examining their benefits and advantages," pointing out that "the government's approach is to expand technologies to ration water and increase production."

He added, "The Ministry did not indicate during the current or past years any misuse of irrigation systems, and our winter agricultural plan and the rest of the seasons were associated with the use of modern irrigation systems and wells."

He pointed out that “the areas allocated for the use of modern irrigation systems start from 60 dunums, 80 dunums, and 120 dunums,” noting that “using them reduces water use by 40%, which gives us room to expand agriculture.”
