    Economy News - Baghdad
Iraq ranked first in the Arab world and sixth in the world in air pollution indicators during the past year 2023.
A report by the air quality technology company "IQAir" stated that Iraq ranked first in the Arab world in air pollution indicators last year, while it ranked sixth in the world.
According to the company's report, the average concentration of polluted particles reached 43.8 micrograms per square meter for Iraq, while the average concentration of polluted particles in the UAE reached 43 micrograms per square meter.
In addition, an American report stated that Iraq ranked penultimate in the ranking of countries with clean air, while Iceland ranked first.

The American magazine "Ceoworld" stated in a report that there are large variations in air pollution levels between countries, as climate change exacerbates the problem.
According to the report, Iceland boasts that it has the cleanest air in the world. Among the 100 countries listed in the table, the PM2.5 concentration is 3.4 micrograms per cubic meter. Conversely, Chad was found to have the most polluted air, with PM2.5 concentrations reaching 3.4 micrograms per cubic metre. 89.7.
The ranking of European countries was as follows: Iceland (1), Estonia (6), Finland (7), Andorra (8), and Sweden (9).
On the other end of the spectrum, Chad had the worst air quality, recording 89.7 micrograms per cubic meter, followed by Iraq (80.1 micrograms per cubic meter) and then Pakistan, Bahrain, and Bangladesh, respectively.
The causes of air pollution in Iraq are attributed to the spread of waste incinerators, oil extraction and gas burning operations, in addition to the spread of factories in the middle and near cities, such as brick factories, in light of the absence of oversight.
