Iraq is the first in the Arab world and the sixth globally with the highest growth rate of GDP in 2022
Shafaq News/ Iraq recorded a growth in GDP for the year 2022 to rank first in the Arab world and ranked sixth in the world, according to the American magazine Global Finance.
The magazine said in a report, which was reviewed by Shafaq News Agency, that "the growth of the gross domestic product in Iraq reached 9.5%, which is higher than last year, which amounted to 5.9% and higher than the year 2020, in which the growth decreased to 15.7 percent," noting that the rate of growth decreased to 15.7 percent. Over the past five years, growth has increased by 2.1%.
She added that Iraq ranked first in the Arab world in terms of GDP growth rate, followed by Kuwait, then Saudi Arabia third, then Egypt fourth and Oman fifth.
Globally, according to the report, Iraq came sixth out of 197 countries listed in the table, while Guinea ranked first with a growth rate of 47.2%, followed by Macau with a growth rate of 15.5%, and Barbados island came third with a growth rate of 11.2% and Saint Kitts and Nevis fourth with a growth rate of 10% and the island of Saint Lucia fifth with a growth rate of 9.7%, while the list was followed by Ukraine with a growth rate of 35%, indicating that Syria, Lebanon and Afghanistan did not address their growth rate because there are no accurate data about it.
Experts have already warned of the so-called “resource curse,” that is, mismanagement of revenues from oil extraction, which has historically been associated with slow economic growth, corruption, authoritarianism, and a whole host of social ills, noting that “one-year GDP figures could potentially hurt It is misleading because many of the previously fast-growing economies experienced rapid and dramatic declines."
