    Baghdad today - follow-up
Today, Thursday (April 4, 2024), Iranian media revealed the details of the phone call between Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi and Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani.
The Iranian “IRNA” news agency indicated that “Raisi expressed, during a phone call with Al-Sudani yesterday, Wednesday, “his thanks to the Iraqi government for consoling the Iranian government and people, as well as issuing a statement denouncing this terrorist measure,” considering the Zionist entity’s crime “a blatant violation of the principle of "The immunity of diplomatic and consular sites and personnel and an attack on the two important principles of diplomacy and international peace."
He stressed that "this entity will pay a heavy price for this criminal act."
He continued, "The Islamic Republic of Iran is proud of its strategic position and its principled logic in supporting the Islamic Resistance," adding that "all the peoples of the world have realized today, after 45 years, the authenticity and credibility of the positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran."
Raisi considered the joint position against the Zionist entity “a manifestation of solidarity between the Iranian and Iraqi peoples,” praising “the solid and decisive positions of the Iraqi government in supporting the oppressed Palestinian people,” stressing “the necessity for all Islamic countries to take such positions.”
Yesterday evening, Wednesday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani made a telephone call to Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, during which he expressed the sincere condolences of Iraq, the government and people, for the martyrdom of General Muhammad Reza Zahedi and a number of his comrades during the Zionist aggression, which targeted the Iranian consulate building in Damascus. He stressed Iraq's condemnation of this sinful aggression.
During the call, the Prime Minister pointed out the depth of bilateral relations between Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the importance of working to strengthen them in the interest of the two friendly peoples.
He also stressed that the continuation of the aggression against Gaza would lead the region and its security to dangerous slides, calling at the same time on the international community to assume its responsibilities in protecting the Palestinian people and preventing the conflict from spreading throughout the region.
Last Monday, an Israeli bombing of the Iranian consulate building in Damascus resulted in the killing of 7 leaders and advisors of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, amid Tehran’s vow to respond to this attack, while observers believe that Iran will respond with a bombing that may be in Iraqi Kurdistan, as it did in previous times to certain sites it described as “Mossad headquarters,” or that an Israeli embassy in one of the countries could be targeted, perhaps Jordan, especially with the increasing talk and factional focus on Jordan, the latest of which is the Hezbollah Brigades’ announcement of its readiness to supply “the Islamic resistance in Jordan to carry out operations against the Zionist entity.”
